MARSHFIELD (WAOW) - A longtime 4-H volunteer is recognized with a Jefferson Award.
Jerry Lang of Marshfield is now in his 53rd year with 4-H.
"It makes me feel good if I am helping somebody else, especially our youth," Jerry Lang says.
His love for the youth development organization started as a child.
"I grew up on a farm showing Guernsey cows. I took the rope as soon as I could start," Lang explains.
Eventually, he became a club leader, working with children on their dairy, gardening and conservation projects. Additionally, he is the driving force behind the start up of a drama and arts and crafts program.
"Jerry does not know the word 'no' or when to quit," fellow 4-H leader Romelle Bymers says. "He makes sure it happens; he gets donations and sponsors."
Lang is credited with raising money for major upgrades at the Central Wisconsin Fairgrounds in Marshfield. Local, state and national organizations have recognized his efforts in working with 4-H schools and community organizations, like St. Vincent De Paul.
He sees it as an investment in what's to come.
"I could get very emotional here. Our kids are our future," Lang says.
