Brad Hanson joined the anchor desk of the 6 and 10 p.m. shows in August of 2021.

I originally started with WAOW in 2018 as the Sports Director, and covered local prep sports, Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers over the past three years.

My road here has been an unconventional one, to say the least. A year and a half into my college career at the University of Minnesota, I ran out of money. So as a way to pay for the rest of my school, I joined the Marine Corps, and spent the next four years traveling the globe.

I was a broadcaster in the Marines, and was primarily stationed in Iwakuni, Japan. From there, I deployed to Afghanistan, the Philippines and Australia.

After my four years of service, I returned to school and graduated in May of 2014. After a summer with the Minnesota Twins radio department as an intern, I took a job as a reporter for KWWL-TV out of Waterloo, Iowa. I was in charge of the Dubuque bureau for three and a half years, where I covered anything and everything going on in that community.

Though I was a general news guy then, I also covered for our sports department when needed. I was blessed with the chance to cover the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Rose Bowl and Pinstripe Bowl, as well as follow the UNI Panthers to Seattle and Oklahoma City in the NCAA tournament. I also got the chance to cover local sports, including football every Friday night during the fall in Dubuque.

I met my wife shortly after moving to Wausau, and got married last year. We have a wonderful daughter, and love raising her in this area. We love to get out on walks, hikes, bike rides, and generally anything outside together.

I'm so grateful and so excited to provide coverage of this wonderful area I've been able to call home the last three years.

Have a story or know an athlete we should be covering? Give me a shout! bhanson@waow.com.
