Tommy Thompson celebrating "70 for 70" campaign in video

MADISON (WKOW) — University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson is celebrating a successful COVID-19 vaccination campaign, which wrapped up at the end of October.

Thompson said in a press release Monday that 70 students attending one of the 11 system schools that reached a 70% vaccination rate were selected by random drawing to receive a $7,000 scholarship.

“We took up a challenge to educate and inform students as a part of a vaccination campaign to help keep our universities safe – and it has succeeded,” Thompson said. “What a thrill it is to be able to tell students they have won a $7,000 scholarship. I am so proud of our students, faculty, staff, and administrators who helped make this happen.”

In celebration, the UW System released a video where Thompson meets with the "Board of Mascots" to announce the campaign's success.

The original goal was for 12 of the universities to reach a 70% vaccination rate, and all but one school met the target. UW-Madison ran its own campaign and boasts a vaccination rate of over 88% of students vaccinated against COVID-19.
