WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW)-- The Wausau School District administration is proposing giving $1 million worth of stipends to staff in the district as a thank you.

In a statement ahead of the board of education meeting Monday, the district said the following:

"As all employers and employees in the Wausau Region struggle with the impact of COVID-19, the Wausau School District is excited to propose the distribution of approximately $1 million dollars worth of stipends to all District staff at tonight’s Regular Board of Education Meeting! The stipends are a thank you; a way to recognize them for all of the extra work they’re putting in this school year to ensure our students continue to receive a high-quality education amid the ongoing pandemic. Staff continues to go above and beyond every single day to advance student learning, achievement, and success and that does not go unnoticed. Administration will ask the Board of Education to approve the proposal. Once approved, the District will work to distribute the stipends to staff."

The Board of Education meeting is schedule to start at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at John Muir Middle School.
