Food pantries seeing increased need ahead of holiday season

WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) -- The holiday season is right around the corner, and one area food pantry says it's biggest need is not donations, but volunteers.

Ruby's Pantry operates two pop-up locations in Wausau and needs a minimum of 25 volunteers to run its food drives once a month.

But organizers say they've had a few instances where they've had to cancel food pantries recently because they haven't had enough volunteers.

"Our mission is to try to impact the local community there and try to help folks that can use the extra assistance there and need the extra food whether that's senior citizens or young families, whoever that may be," said Robert Petts, site coordinator for Ruby's Pantry.

If you're interested in volunteering, you can find more information on how to do so here.
