WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW)-- Following a crash between a dog sled team and a snowmobiler, officials are reminding everyone using the trails to be safe.

In Marathon County everyone is almost anyone is allowed to use the trails while they are open. Recreational Deputy for the Marathon County Sheriff's department Michael Van Offeren says the priority goes to the snowmobiler on the trails.

When it comes to dog sleds in Marathon County, Van Offeren says it's rare that they are in the area, but they do cause a safety concern.

"Its just one of those thing that most snowmobilers don't expect to see dog sleds on the trails," said Van Offeren. "Nothing really prohibits them from being on those trails but again its discouraged for safety concerns," he added.

He is reminding everyone to dressing in bright colors such as blazing orange and pink to be easily seen.
