MARATHON CO. Wis. (WAOW) -- An area children's book author teamed up with local businesses to encourage kids to read this summer.

Called 'Sandy's Summer Splash into Reading' kids aged six through 12 can log their minutes and submit them to Clean Slate Coffee House in Rothschild.

Jessica Kopecky, author and illustrator, said it's important to keep kids minds learning during the summer.

"Parents, we're getting encouraged by the schools to keep the kids reading so they can keep their momentum up, once they get back to school in the fall, then they're ready to hit the ground running." said Kopecky.

This program is also a fundraiser, for every minute of reading logged, one penny will go to the Wausau Early Birds Rotary Club Reading To Go Program, a program that teaches early literacy at area schools.

Sign up information and reading log forms can be found at Kopecky's book website
